| The sounds at Mawana |
|
While we were at Mawana we heard many different sounds that a lot of us had never heard before. We heard many different types of birds each sounding different from the other. The fish eagles flying past was not heard often but when heard it was something that stopped people what they were doing because it was so loud and certainly not a sound that you hear everyday. While on solar tare we could hear many different types of animals in the background such as the baboons and the sound of a waterbuck barking. The sound of squirrels was heard often as there were many around the camp. While travelling in the jeeps we were lucky enough to hear and see the elephants. While in the jeeps we could hear the elephants stomachs rumbling even though we were around about 50m away that was a sound that all of us wont forget . The sound of the sticks and the leaves crunching was heard when the impala were running, which was also heard often as there were so many around. Other sounds were also heard apart from wildlife such as the loud sound of a gun shot in the distance and the workmen working on the building could also be heard. Also on solar tare when it was silent the trickling sound of the water running over the rocks could be heard and the sound of the trees all around rustling and blowing in the wind. The sweet sound of students singing was heard a lot especially at night around the burning fire. Mawana was a fairly quiet place and you had to stop and listen to hear certain things but the sounds of the students, teachers and leaders talking and laughing was always heard where ever we went. The sounds that were heard at Mawana were certainly sounds that will stay in all of our minds and we will remember forever. |
