OUR DAYS AT MAWANA

THURSDAY

We woke up @ about 06:30 am to scrumptious a meal. We then had for the showers to prepare for the day.

On that day we basically had to do research on medicinal plants and interview some of the members of staff within the reserve our group interviewed only one person who gave us information about 4 medicinal plants.

After that was completed we had a drawing session which we had as a daily routine some of us were frustrated, because they could not draw “professionally” but hey as you guess no body was perfect , we all struggled to get the of giving our pictures details.

In the late hours we left camp to go see the baobab tree the drive to the tree was about 45 minutes. When we got to the tree we measured it and telling by the size we found out that it was about 5000 years old which was very interesting. We also went on top of the tree itself and took some photos of the beautiful sunset, we then had a choice of drawing the tree or writing a poem about who am I.

After this drawing & poetry session we had out for a game drive which was like 2hours.we saw a few animals like the waterbuck’s, kudu’s, owls, dussies and the South African kangaroo etc.
It was like down to 7°C; we were all freezing and felt like we were going to catch a cold or something, but we enjoyed it.

After the ride we had a great supper which was prepared by group 3.We then had some story telling and laughing session brought to you by the one and only Stix (Tshepang Mulamu one of the learners) and ended up sleeping at the early hours of Friday.

FRIDAY

We all got up early in the morning  prepared b/fast and had some hot Milo, also some corn flakes.

immediately after all the eating came to a stop we turned to class and started working on our tasks (which we were given on our first day) after all discussions and had a rest.

After our rest we had out to play some games and we were very tired after having to concentrate, plan and discuss before starting with them. WE enjoyed plying these games and after that we had to prepare ourselves for the night out in the bush when we slept out next the Limpopo River an had to take turn in between to guard and while guarding we were given worksheet to write what we experienced while on our stay at Mawana  for some of us it was a long night even some of us did not sleep.

SATURDAY

We woke up early went back to camp after our night in the open bush and had a short b/fast which we all enjoyed a lot after every cold night. Then we had to finish our tasks the writing and discussing. We then went to the river banks to learn about the water ph and animals living in and around it. Instead of finishing the investigation we plunged into the water and swam for a while. After that we had back to camp had some showers and prepared lunch and had our drawing session which some us were not really fond of.

then we rested for awhile, then we went out again to do a optical course which was very tiring.

As you can see we were busy running all over all over the place ,with all the exhaustion we finally went back camp took long showers, because of all the sweat from running up and down.

We then prepared supper for our last night, we had a lot of singing and dancing happening in the kitchen. After having our supper we then sang some more and had to read out our poems and render any other item. Our  last night together we rocked it was one of the best moments of our trip and all these moments will never be forgotten for the rest of our lives.
